Blackbeard
Overview
At Blackbeard, I worked on Mega Drift (iOS) as a 3D Artist responsible for vehicle modeling, shared environment creation, and full in-engine asset integration (Unity). The studio was a small, founder-driven team where I collaborated daily with the Designer, Developer, Producer/Artist, and a Junior Artist I helped mentor.
I gained more experience and insights into delivering high-quality mobile content under tight constraints, support others, and I begun to develop a deeper mindset that would later lead me into Technical Art.
Project Details
Blackbeard operated as a very small studio with limited resources, no senior artists to learn from, and tight production demands typical of mobile game development. I produced all vehicle models while simultaneously mentoring a junior team member who relied on me for guidance. The game targeted mobile hardware, which imposed strict optimization requirements for models, textures, and overall asset efficiency.
I created all vehicles for Mega Drift, having experience of this from before at Polarbit. I shared responsibility for environment assets, and handled asset preparation and integration directly inside of Unity. I optimized meshes and textures for mobile performance, established stable content workflows with the Junior Artist, and offered technical guidance despite being early in my own career. Daily collaboration with the founders ensured that visual quality, performance, and implementation stayed aligned.
My work delivered every vehicle in Mega Drift and a significant portion of the environment content. The Junior Artist I mentored grew into a self-sufficient contributor, strengthening the team's production capacity. Through close collaboration with the founders, I helped maintain visual coherence, ensure perfomrance on mobile devices, and support a smooth content pipeline in a resource-limited studio environment. This role marked an important milestone in my artistic and technical growth and laid early foundations for my transition into Technical Art.
